Between the Flame and the Frost

Fear becomes fuel in the belly of beasts
Reanimated fossils we refused to confront
Ash filled stomachs & appetites never cease
Our demons find shelter in this devil's gut
Warm whispers from silver tongues
Open ears wounded by lying lust
Every breath fills now iron lungs
A heart still beating despite the rust
Now I am just an ember in your fire
Tucked safely between tight knit stones
Watching men that bear consequences much dire
As they become the flame that licks the meat on your bones
Warmth may make it seem like a necessity
But there are things worst than blistering cold
Hope is held you instead find it in unbridled revelry
There is nothing but frost in his mountain full of fool's gold
